Bill Murray Signs Gotham Cinema Rides Ecto-1 at Rivian's Ghostbusters Launch in NYC
Two generations of Ghostbusters vehicles, one legendary actor, and a very special new autograph for Gotham Cinema Rides.
Thursday, October 8, 2026, was a pretty unforgettable day for the Gotham Cinema Rides team.
We were invited to New York City for the launch of Rivian's brand-new Ghostbusters-inspired Ecto-R1, where our classic Ecto-1 NJ was on display alongside Rivian's modern reimagining of the famous Ghostbusters vehicle.
But having the two cars together was only part of the story. Original Ghostbusters star Bill Murray was there, and he spent some time with our Ecto-1, posed for photos with the team, and even added his autograph to the car!

For any Ghostbusters fan, getting to meet the man behind Dr. Peter Venkman is a pretty big deal. Having him take a closer look at your Ecto-1 takes things to another level.
During the event, Bill joined us for photos and spent time inside our Cadillac Ecto-1. Then came the moment we're unlikely to forget: he signed the car.
That signature makes our Ecto-1 NJ even more special, because the vehicle already carries the autograph of fellow original Ghostbusters star Sigourney Weaver.
That's Peter Venkman and Dana Barrett, together on the same Ecto-1. Not something you see every day!

The Original Style Meets the Next Generation
Rivian's Ecto-R1 is a modern, electric interpretation of the legendary 1959 Cadillac Ecto-1, built around the Rivian R1S.
Complete with the familiar red-and-white Ghostbusters styling, roof-mounted equipment, sirens, lights and plenty of clever details, the vehicle celebrates one of the most recognizable movie cars ever created.
Seeing our classic Cadillac alongside Rivian's futuristic take on the Ectomobile was a great way to celebrate just how enduring Ghostbusters has become.
Two very different vehicles, separated by decades of automotive technology, brought together by a shared love of the movies.
Bill Murray Takes the Ecto-R1 for a Spin
The launch also marked Rivian's new Halloween collaboration with Sony Pictures, introducing a Ghostbusters-themed software experience featuring special vehicle displays, lighting effects, sounds and interactive surprises.
To celebrate, Rivian brought Bill Murray back as Dr. Peter Venkman for a new Ghostbusters commercial, directed by Gil Kenan.
And the fun didn't stop with the commercial. During the New York launch, Murray climbed into the Ecto-R1 for a trip around the block, bringing a little Ghostbusters magic to the streets of Manhattan.
With our Ecto-1 NJ at the event, it really did feel like two generations of ghostbusting had come together.

Our Ecto-1 isn't simply a display vehicle. It's out on the streets of New York City, giving fans the opportunity to ride in an iconic movie-inspired car and visit the real locations that helped make Ghostbusters legendary.
Having our car alongside Rivian's Ecto-R1, meeting Bill Murray, and adding his signature alongside Sigourney Weaver's is another incredible chapter in its story.
